The Innovation Edition Out Tomorrow

I’m pretty excited about the line-up for tomorrow’s Edition.

Carmen Ruest of Cirque Du Soleil spent about a half hour with me, talking about how the organization got started, what made it special, and how, at their 25th anniversary, they’re laying the groundwork for another 25 years.

The best thing, to me, about Carmen’s perspective is that being innovative is something anyone can do if they are truly on a mission.  For the Cirque gang, it was a unique drive to create this special brand of animal-free circus that had the spirit of street performance.

That was, in Live 2.0 parlance, their niche.

As long as I’m on the subject, one of the pieces in tomorrow’s Edition that I think you will love is comedian Johnny Steele’s piece about how he got into producing comedy shows.  Not to give any spoilers, but there’s a line where he attributes his decision to go into comedy show production (as opposed to just being a comic) to an “undiagnosed stroke.”  Well, Johnny’s perfectly healthy, but that would explain his insane (and ultimately successful) decision to become the impresario rather than just the talent.

John Sylvain of The Sacred Fools theater of Los Angeles describes the interaction between Sacred Fools and its surrounding community as one of a constant inflow and outflow of people and ideas.  It made me picture the organization as some kind of animal breathing in and breathing out.  Or maybe that’s because their current show is “Land of the Tigers.”  (Also, I love that the tagline for the show is “It’s as Stupid as it Sounds.”)

Finally, maybe it’s just me, but there’s an video chat with Natasha Tsakos of Upwake, and I find her irresistably charming and fun.  I’ll leave this a mystery, but if anyone knows where I can get a blue keyhole for my office, kindly pass the information along.

If you haven’t subscribed to the Edition, you can do it in the upper right of this page.  You can just come to the site as well, but getting it delivered right to you is that much more convenient!
