Ok, so one of the coolest things about TED is the immediate response.
Ben Zander is the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and a real inspiration. In many ways, his outlook is Live 2.0 without even knowing he’s Live 2.0.
Anyway, Ben was kind enough to come to my presentation yesterday, and we talked about it afterward. He said to me, “Yes, I agree with you, but I’m left with the question, what do we do about it?”
Well, Ben, here’s my answer:
Innovate. Always. On behalf of the ticket buyer.
That’s it. That’s what the Live entertainment business needs to do. Innovate constantly on behalf of the people paying the freight on what we’re doing, which is the ticket buyer.
What do I mean by innovation? I’m going to explain it in the next Edition, coming up at the beginning of March, but basically it’s about creating new sources of value. This requires a willingness to do things that haven’t been done before, and that in itself can be uncomfortable.
Which is also what makes it fun! Stay tuned for more on this topic!
